24 Hour Live In Care Cost: Live-In vs 24-Hour Shift Care
If you are searching for 24 hour live in care cost, start here: live-in care and 24-hour shift care are two different services, and the right one for your family shapes the quote you receive.
Below, Right at Home in Pasadena explains how each works, who each suits, and how we price and bill. The short version: we don't publish hourly rates. We quote after a free in-home assessment.
What does 24 hour live in care cost?
We don't post a standard hourly or daily rate, because the cost depends on the care your family member needs and the hours involved. After a consultation we give you a written quote for your situation, including for live-in and 24-hour care.
Here is how billing generally works:
- Care is generally billed by the hour.
- Billing happens after the service is delivered, usually weekly.
- If a couple is cared for together by one caregiver, a discounted rate applies. We don't publish the exact discount.
For what a quote covers, see cost and what's included. For payment options, see paying for care.
How does 24 hour live in care work?
With live-in care, the caregiver stays in the home and provides care at agreed times. It is not one person caring around the clock without a break. The arrangement assumes the caregiver sleeps and rests.
That has a practical consequence for the home. By our franchise standard, the caregiver needs their own bedroom and bathroom, and a setting where they can get eight hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Live-in care tends to suit someone who generally sleeps through the night and needs help during the day, such as with dressing, meals, getting around the house or errands.
24-hour shift care: when someone needs help all night
With 24-hour care, several caregivers take turns so that someone is always on duty. If your family member needs a person awake overnight, we schedule a night shift on those terms.
This tends to suit situations where help continues after dark, for example:
- Wandering at night
- Repeated trips to the bathroom that need assistance
Because more than one caregiver is involved, the structure and the quote differ from live-in care. We go through the details with you in the consultation.
How we decide which one fits your family
We don't choose from a brochure. A staff member visits the home for a free assessment and looks at the daily needs and the living space. Then we build a care plan around your family member's history, routines and preferences, review it with you, and change it where you want.
A few things to know about working with us:
- Care managers can be reached 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
- Caregivers go through background and reference checks, and are bonded and covered by liability insurance.
- If a caregiver isn't the right fit, one phone call gets you a different match.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is live-in care one caregiver working 24 hours straight?+
No. A live-in caregiver stays in the home and provides care at set times, with time to sleep and rest. If your family member needs someone awake through the night, that is 24-hour shift care with several caregivers.
How is 24-hour live-in care billed?+
Care is generally billed by the hour, after service is delivered, usually weekly. We don't publish hourly rates. We give a quote after a consultation. Couples cared for together by one caregiver receive a discounted rate.
What does my home need for live-in care?+
By our franchise standard, the caregiver needs a bedroom and bathroom of their own and an environment where they can sleep eight hours in a row. We check the living space during the free in-home assessment.
